Revelle's River Resort
Bowden, West Virginia
51 RV Sites, 13 Cabins, 1 Yurt
Deep in the Monongahela National Forest along two miles of Shavers Fork river frontage in Randolph County, West Virginia, Revelle's River Resort has built a compelling mountain river retreat that serves outdoor-focused guests year-round with a combination of riverfront RV sites, heated cabin rentals, an on-site saloon with live weekend music, and direct access to some of the most spectacular wild country remaining in the eastern United States. The resort's position on Shavers Fork—one of the cleanest and most scenic mountain streams in the central Appalachians—provides immediate access to trout fishing, swimming holes, and the riverside environment that defines the best of West Virginia's mountain camping tradition. When the destination is the river, Revelle's earns its reputation.
The property offers a range of accommodation types suited to every camping preference. Riverfront RV sites with hookups place guests as close to the water as possible, and small 12×12 sleeping shelters sited directly on the river provide a more intimate option for guests who want the creek sound without a full camping setup. Heated cabins range in size from intimate couples retreats to structures sleeping up to fifteen guests, and many cabins feature private hot tubs for post-hike soaking—a detail that West Virginia mountain camping guests in any season find immediately appealing. Cabin amenities include heat, wood-burning stoves, full kitchens, and private bathroom facilities. A heated bathhouse serves tent campers and guests without cabin facilities through the winter. Basketball and volleyball courts, horseshoes and cornhole, a dog park, and a splash pad for younger guests provide on-site recreational variety. Shavers Saloon operates on-site with a full bar, live music on weekends, and food service that gives the resort a genuine social gathering dimension within walking distance of any site on the property.
Shavers Fork's character reflects the best of the West Virginia mountain stream experience. The river runs clear and cold over sandstone bedrock, with deep green pools below every significant drop and the particular clarity of Appalachian mountain water fed by the high-elevation watershed of the Cheat Mountain ridgeline above. Brown and brook trout hold in the cooler reaches, and the surrounding forest—northern hardwoods at the lower elevations transitioning to red spruce and yellow birch on the ridgeline—creates a visual and ecological variety that changes perceptibly as the river climbs. Hiking trails from the resort connect to the national forest trail network, giving guests access to the ridgeline terrain above the river valley.
Revelle's serves as the base camp its Monongahela Forest location demands. Blackwater Falls State Park, with the distinctive amber-colored waterfall that gives it its name, is within accessible range for a day trip of genuine beauty. Seneca Rocks, the dramatic quartzite formation that anchors the eastern WV climbing community, is another practical day destination. Dolly Sods Wilderness—a high-elevation plateau of bogs, wind-sculptured spruce trees, and panoramic views that feels more like Labrador than West Virginia—provides one of the most remarkable hiking landscapes in the eastern United States. The Mountain Rail experience at the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad adds a distinct historical dimension.
Revelle's River Resort is open year-round, and each season offers something distinct. Summer brings river swimming and fishing; fall turns the Monongahela Forest into a color spectacle; winter is for cabin guests who want the hot tub and wood stove after a day on snowshoe trails; spring brings the peak trout season and the first wildflower bloom in the hollows. Book the river cabin with the hot tub for fall, and let Shavers Fork make the case for West Virginia mountain country.
