The nation's first national monument rises 1,267 feet as a volcanic neck visible across the surrounding country, with Belle Fourche River fishing and the Black Hills ponderosa pine forest filling out the area. Summer Devils Tower traffic is the peak, and the August Sturgis rally tightens the whole region. With 14 sites this close to the monument, reserve well ahead.
