Green Ridge State Forest, 43,000 acres of managed woodland directly north of the campground, provides mountain biking trails, hunting, and dispersed camping on terrain that gives serious off-road cyclists an eastern destination that rivals the better-known trail systems of West Virginia. Ridge Rider Campground operates through the Maryland camping season with spring, summer, and fall all offering genuinely appealing conditions in the Potomac highlands. Fishing in the river and the stocked pond draws year-round visitors when the weather cooperates, and the canal towpath is at its most beautiful during fall foliage and spring wildflower seasons when the bottomland forest along the Potomac is at its most vivid.
