Fisherman's Cove RV Park
Ilwaco, Washington
45 RV Sites
Fisherman's Cove RV Park in Ilwaco, Washington, sits at the mouth of the Columbia River on the Long Beach Peninsula's southern tip, where the Pacific Ocean's most powerful river-ocean confluence creates the legendary bar fishing, the Cape Disappointment State Park's dramatic lighthouse-topped headlands, and the Lewis and Clark Expedition's western terminus in one of the Pacific Northwest coast's most historically significant and scenically compelling locations. Positioned in Pacific County where the Columbia's final miles before the Pacific deliver the combination of river, ocean, and estuary recreation that makes Ilwaco one of the premier salmon and sturgeon fishing communities on the West Coast, the park serves serious anglers and coastal recreation enthusiasts.
The park provides full hookup RV sites alongside community recreation amenities: a beach for shoreline access, dog park, community fire pit, firewood including a free welcome bundle, pond, river and stream access, RV storage, laundry, showers, and Wi-Fi serve the practical and recreational needs of extended-stay guests and overnight coastal visitors. The pet-friendly atmosphere accommodates the beach dogs that Pacific Northwest coastal camping invariably involves, and the park's proximity to Ilwaco's commercial charter fleet makes it the natural base for guests whose visit centers on the Columbia River bar's famous salmon and halibut charter fishing that operates from the Ilwaco Boat Basin throughout the season.
The Columbia River Bar—where the river's enormous freshwater discharge collides with the Pacific Ocean's swells and tidal currents—is one of the most challenging and dangerous navigational passages in the world, earning its historical designation as the Graveyard of the Pacific from the hundreds of vessels lost in the bar's breaking waves since maritime commerce began on the Columbia in the eighteenth century. The Columbia River Maritime Museum in Astoria, Oregon, just across the river via the Astoria-Megler Bridge, provides the most comprehensive interpretation of the bar's navigational history and the maritime culture of the Columbia's lower river communities.
Cape Disappointment State Park, adjacent to Ilwaco, encompasses the historic Cape Disappointment Lighthouse—the oldest operating lighthouse on the West Coast, first lit in 1856—alongside the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center that marks the expedition's November 1805 arrival at the Pacific Ocean after 18 months of westward travel. The park's Waikiki Beach on the Columbia's south shore and the North Head Lighthouse on the Pacific's north-facing headland provide additional scenic and historical access within the state park's 1,882 protected acres.
Fisherman's Cove RV Park operates year-round in Ilwaco's temperate maritime climate, with the salmon fishing season from April through October driving the most fishing-specific demand and the Chinook salmon runs in late summer and fall—when the Columbia's returning fish are largest and most sought—creating the peak reservation pressure for the Ilwaco charter and private boat fishing community. The Long Beach Peninsula's 28-mile ocean beach provides year-round walking, kite flying, and the razor clam harvest during the favorable negative tides that Washington's game department schedules periodically throughout the fall and winter. Cape Disappointment's hiking and lighthouse viewing are accessible across all seasons.
