Buck Creek RV Park

Marion, North Carolina

31 RV Sites

On 48 acres at the base of the Blue Ridge in Marion, North Carolina—in McDowell County where the Appalachian plateau's eastern escarpment drops from the 6,684-foot summit of Mount Mitchell—the highest peak in the eastern United States—toward the Catawba River's piedmont valley, and where the Appalachian Scenic National Trail, the Blue Ridge Parkway's overlooks, and the Linville Gorge Wilderness create the concentration of eastern mountain recreation that makes McDowell County's outdoor tourism appeal extend well beyond its modest size—Buck Creek RV Park provides 74 sites along a half-mile stretch of Buck Creek's mountain stream corridor, full hookup connections with 30 and 50-amp service, a pickleball court, a three-hole disc golf practice course, swimming and tubing in the creek, and a 30-acre open meadow in the western-McDowell County setting that positions the campground 45 minutes from Asheville and one hour from Boone. The half-mile of mountain stream through the property, the swimming and tubing, and the Blue Ridge Parkway access within minutes define what brings guests to Buck Creek specifically rather than a comparable flat-terrain North Carolina campground. Seventy-four sites along the half-mile Buck Creek frontage—with full hookups including water, sewer, and 30 and 50-amp electric at hookup sites, plus WiFi and cable television throughout—include pull-through configurations for larger rigs and wooded back-in sites with the creek proximity that the stream corridor's layout provides at multiple distances from the water. Laundry facilities, a dump station, and boat and RV storage handle the extended-stay practical requirements. The 30-acre open meadow adjacent to the creek provides the unstructured recreation space that group events, pickup sports, and the aerial recreation that open mountain meadows make possible. A pickleball court and a three-hole disc golf practice area provide organized sport alternatives to the creek recreation. Tent camping options serve the lightweight camping guest alongside the full hookup RV market. Pet-friendly policies throughout. Buck Creek's mountain stream flowing through the property provides the swimming, tubing, and fishing access in the cold, clear headwater tributary environment that the Blue Ridge's eastern slopes generate at McDowell County's elevation. The creek's cold temperature, the smooth cobble bottom, and the wooded streamside corridor provide the specific mountain creek experience that the Appalachian foothills' upper-elevation streams maintain through the summer months when piedmont rivers become too warm and silted for comfortable wading. Mount Mitchell State Park—accessible from the Blue Ridge Parkway spur road near Burnsville, 45 minutes northwest—provides the summit experience at the highest point east of the Mississippi River, with a visitor center, paved trail to the summit observation tower, and the high-elevation spruce-fir forest that represents the southernmost extension of the Canadian boreal forest in the Appalachians. Linville Falls and Linville Gorge Wilderness, 20 minutes north via the Blue Ridge Parkway, provide the waterfall and gorge hiking that the Jonas Ridge-to-Linville area concentrates in the most dramatic single hiking corridor in western North Carolina. Grandfather Mountain—the North Carolina Nature Conservancy's privately managed ecological reserve with the Mile High Swinging Bridge—adds the summit attraction that draws visitors specifically for the combination of bridge drama and highland meadow wildlife. Buck Creek RV Park is open seasonally through the western North Carolina camping calendar. The summer escape from the Piedmont heat and the fall leaf color season—when McDowell County's hardwood canopy turns orange and red on the ridge above the campground—represent the two primary demand peaks. Reserve early for October foliage weekends, bring the tube for Buck Creek's swimming hole, and let Mount Mitchell's summit and the Blue Ridge Parkway's overlooks earn the eastern mountain camping experience that the highest peak east of the Mississippi makes specifically significant.
