The RV Resort at Orange Lake
Citra, Florida
136 RV Sites
North Central Florida's thoroughbred horse country occupies a landscape that surprises visitors expecting the coastal and theme-park Florida they've seen advertised — rolling pastures shaded by centuries-old live oaks, iconic horse farms training thoroughbreds on open tracks, and the pastoral calm of the Ocala region at its most quietly beautiful. The RV Resort at Orange Lake sits in Citra, positioned squarely between Ocala and Gainesville in the heart of this countryside, combining that pastoral setting with a full-featured resort amenity lineup centered on a heated saltwater aquatic complex.
The resort's saltwater pool and lazy river anchor the on-site recreational programming, complemented by a waterpark complex with slides and water features that keep guests active through the warm-weather months. Pickleball and shuffleboard courts serve the property's active guests, and full-hookup sites accommodate rigs across the property with the practical amenities that make extended stays comfortable. The resort caters to both short-term visitors exploring the region's natural attractions and longer-stay guests who use it as a winter base in Florida's temperate interior. Pets are welcome throughout.
The Ocala region's horse country sets a uniquely pastoral backdrop that feels genuinely unhurried — open pastures, working farms, and the distinctive canopy of live oaks that defines this part of the state. The area around Citra and the surrounding Marion County countryside hosts more thoroughbred horses per square mile than any other region in the country outside of Kentucky's Bluegrass, and the sight of horses training on the long, flat straightaways of nearby farms is a distinctly Florida experience that the coastal and theme-park regions of the state cannot provide.
Silver Springs State Park, roughly 20 minutes south, is one of Florida's crown natural attractions — glass-bottom boat tours on one of the world's largest artesian spring systems reveal underwater clarity that has to be seen to be believed, with springs pumping hundreds of millions of gallons of 72-degree water daily. The Ocala National Forest encompasses hundreds of thousands of acres of Florida scrub, spring-fed lakes, and paddling trails. Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park south of Gainesville harbors bison, wild horses, and hundreds of bird species in a genuinely wild landscape, while Rainbow Springs State Park provides exceptional swimming in another of Florida's celebrated spring systems.
The RV Resort at Orange Lake welcomes guests year-round, with Florida's mild winters making it especially attractive from November through April when snowbirds fill the resort and the horse farms' busy training seasons are underway. Summer heat favors early-morning outdoor activity and midday time at the saltwater pool and lazy river. Morning fog lifting from the surrounding orange grove and pasture country is a particularly evocative North Central Florida interior scene — a visual reminder that this part of the state operates on a slower, more seasonal clock than its coastal counterparts. Reserve sites well in advance for winter and spring break visits, when the combination of resort amenities and easy access to Silver Springs and Ocala's horse country keeps the property at or near capacity.
