5.03 reviewsTerre Haute Campground in Terre Haute, Indiana, provides a full-service and comprehensively equipped camping destination in Vigo County's Wabash River community, offering big-rig-friendly full hookup sites, a clubhouse-centered social environment, fitness and recreation infrastructure, and the practical amenity depth that makes extended stays in the western Indiana gateway city comfortable for both transiting travelers on the US-40 and I-70 corridors and visitors exploring the Wabash Valley's outdoor recreation and cultural heritage landscape. The campground's combination of resort-quality amenities and strategic positioning on the Illinois-Indiana border makes it a natural destination for guests whose Midwest travel itinerary includes the Lincoln Heritage Trail and Indiana's covered bridge country.
The campground's facility is comprehensive for a Midwest city-adjacent property: full hookup RV sites with big-rig capability, an outdoor pool, fitness center, game room, clubhouse, general store, walking trails, sports courts for basketball and social recreation, horseshoes, community fire pit, playground, dog park, RV storage, firewood, propane fills, laundry, dump station, showers, and Wi-Fi collectively deliver a resort-quality amenity roster that serves both overnight transit guests and the extended-stay visitors who use Terre Haute as a western Indiana base. Planned activities add organized programming to the well-developed independent recreation infrastructure.
Terre Haute occupies a historically significant position in the American Midwest as a Wabash River crossing community that grew from the National Road (US-40) transportation hub into an industrial center and the birthplace of Eugene V. Debs—the labor leader and five-time Socialist Party presidential candidate whose early twentieth-century political career made Terre Haute a node in the history of American labor activism. The Swope Art Museum, Indiana State University's cultural programming, and the Terre Haute Children's Museum provide cultural attractions appropriate to a Midwestern university town, and the Wabash River Greenway connects the city's outdoor recreation along the river's bottomland trail corridor.
Turkey Run State Park, approximately 40 miles north of Terre Haute in Parke County, protects the most spectacular scenic gorge scenery in Indiana's park system—sandstone canyon formations carved by Mill Creek through the Sugar Creek watershed, with the park's suspended pedestrian bridges crossing the gorge in a trail system that draws hikers from across the Midwest for the canyon's geological drama and hardwood forest character. The Covered Bridge Festival in October celebrates Parke County's remarkable collection of 31 covered bridges—the most in any county in the United States—in one of Indiana's most popular annual fall events. Shades State Park's cliffs and ravines adjacent to Turkey Run add additional canyon hiking access.
Terre Haute Campground operates year-round in Vigo County's four-season continental climate, with the spring and fall seasons delivering the most comfortable conditions for the Wabash Valley's outdoor recreation and the Turkey Run and Parke County destinations' hiking. The October Covered Bridge Festival generates significant regional traffic that fills accommodation across western Indiana's covered bridge country, and advance reservations during the festival window are recommended. Summer's pool and outdoor recreation programming drives the campground's peak season demand, and the I-70 corridor's consistent transit traffic creates year-round occupancy from travelers crossing Indiana's midsection.

Stayed for one night. 45 ft RV, pulling a toad. Didn't have to unhook. RV pad and service pedestal area was concrete. Just perfect. Used none of the facilities but for me it was great.
