Tamarack Campgrounds in Springwater, New York, is a family-owned wooded camping retreat 30 miles south of Rochester in Livingston County — a campground with RV and tent sites and newly remodeled cabin rentals in the rolling hills and forest of the southern Finger Lakes region that gives the Rochester metropolitan market a short-drive natural escape into the Livingston County countryside with proximity to Letchworth State Park, the quiet Hemlock and Canadice Lakes, and the wine and hospitality corridor of the Finger Lakes that the campground's position between the Rochester suburb and the southern lake district makes efficiently accessible. Springwater's Livingston County location in the wooded hill country south of the suburban Rochester commuter zone gives the campground its natural forest character. RV sites, tent camping, and newly remodeled cabins give Tamarack the accommodation range for families, couples, and solo outdoor enthusiasts seeking the Rochester area's accessible wilderness in a campground whose family-owned scale sustains the personalized hospitality that franchise campground standardization consistently trades away. The recent cabin remodel reflects the investment in facility quality that sustains repeat-visit loyalty in the competitive Finger Lakes Southern Tier camping market, and the wooded setting's natural screening between sites gives guests the privacy that high-density campground layouts cannot provide. Pets are welcome. Letchworth State Park, 20 miles west of Springwater in Wyoming and Livingston Counties, is one of the most magnificent state parks in the eastern United States — a 17-mile gorge on the Genesee River where three major waterfalls including the 107-foot Middle Falls, the 70-foot Upper Falls, and the 70-foot Lower Falls drop through the 550-foot-deep gorge walls of Devonian shale and sandstone in a landscape so dramatic that William Pryor Letchworth purchased and donated the park land specifically to preserve what travelers of his era called the "Grand Canyon of the East." The 66-mile trail system through the gorge floor and along the rim gives hikers the complete landscape perspective from both the waterfall base level and the canyon rim's panoramic viewshed. Hemlock Lake and Canadice Lake, 10 miles northeast of Springwater in Livingston and Ontario Counties, are the two smallest of the Finger Lakes and the two that New York City's water supply watershed management has kept free of motorized boats and private shoreline development — a management that gives both lakes the clearest water and the most intact natural shoreline of any Finger Lakes, accessible by the Hemlock-Canadice State Forest's hiking trails in a setting whose absence of development gives the smaller Finger Lakes a wilderness character that the northern and tourist-developed lakes cannot replicate. Hemlock Lake's spring water supply function restricts bank access, but the Canadice Lake shoreline trail gives hikers the complete lake perimeter walk. Tamarack Campgrounds serves guests through the southern Finger Lakes camping season from spring through fall, with the summer months providing the peak Rochester family camping demand and the fall foliage season from late September through October delivering the Livingston County woodland's color display in the mixed hardwood forest that the Genesee and Hemlock valleys sustain. The Swain Resort ski area, 25 miles south of Springwater in Allegany County, provides the winter skiing and snowboarding that extends the campground's regional outdoor recreation context into the cold-weather season for the southern Finger Lakes market. Reserve cabins and RV sites ahead for the summer peak and Letchworth State Park fall foliage weekends when Livingston County's accommodation fills from the western New York market.

One of the most well maintained campgrounds I've been to. Staff was great, very helpful and friendly. Grounds were well maintained and the annual/seasonal sites were well kept as well. There are very few transient spots but well worth the stay if you can find one open...

The amenities are wonderful. The people who work here are truly amazing folks. The one and only drawback that we found is that the weekend RV lots are grass and dirt, and extremely unlevel. However, the people, the views, the amenities, and just the entire feel of the park is absolutely amazing. The camp stor...Show more
