Seven Mountains Campground
Spring Mills, Pennsylvania
15 RV Sites, 19 Cabins, 6 Tent Sites, 1 Onsite RV/Trailer, 1 Tiny House
Seven Mountains Campground in Spring Mills, Pennsylvania, is a four-season outdoor recreation basecamp in the ridge and valley country of Centre County — a full-service campground with RV sites, cabins, tent sites, an onsite rental RV, and a tiny house in the wooded Nittany Mountain landscape of central Pennsylvania's Seven Mountains region, where the seven parallel sandstone ridges of the Appalachian folded-ridge belt create the most concentrated ridge-and-valley terrain in the state and sustain the hunting, fishing, mountain biking, ATV riding, and hiking access that draws the outdoor recreation community from across central Pennsylvania and the I-80 corridor. Spring Mills's Centre County position gives the campground the Penn State proximity and the Bald Eagle State Forest access that define the outdoor and academic character of this section of central Pennsylvania.
RV sites, tent camping, cabins, an onsite rental RV, and a tiny house give the campground the complete accommodation range for hunters, anglers, mountain bikers, families, and through-travelers seeking the specific ridge and valley character that the Seven Mountains area's central Pennsylvania position delivers. The campground's four-season orientation reflects the region's year-round outdoor recreation calendar — deer and turkey hunting seasons in the fall, winter snowmobile and cross-country skiing conditions on the ridges, spring trout fishing in the Penns Creek and Bald Eagle Creek systems, and summer hiking and mountain biking on the state forest trail network. Pets are welcome.
Penns Creek, one of the finest wild trout streams in Pennsylvania, flows through the Spring Mills area in Centre County — a limestone-fed limestone and freestone stream whose cold, clear water sustains a wild brown trout population of legendary quality in the trout fishing community, and whose hatches of green drakes, sulphurs, and Tricorythodes mayflies sustain a fly fishing culture that has made the Penns Creek corridor a destination for the serious dry-fly angler across the northeastern United States. The Penns Creek "Green Drake Hatch" in late May and early June is one of the most celebrated mayfly events in eastern Pennsylvania fly fishing.
Poe Paddy State Park, accessible via the Poe Paddy Road along Penns Creek east of Spring Mills, provides the fly fishing access, primitive camping, and the rail-trail through the Bald Eagle State Forest that makes the Penns Creek corridor specifically rewarding for the hike-in and bike-in camping that Spring Mills's trail-connected campground sustains through the state forest access. The Mid State Trail, one of Pennsylvania's longest public hiking trails at 328 miles, passes through the Seven Mountains area and gives long-distance hikers the campground's amenity access as a comfortable rest point in the ridge and valley section of the trail.
Seven Mountains Campground serves guests year-round in Centre County's four-season Pennsylvania climate, with hunting seasons from October through December drawing the most concentrated deer and turkey hunting demand, the spring trout season from April through June sustaining the Penns Creek fly fishing market, and the summer months providing the hiking, mountain biking, and family camping programming that the state forest trail network and the campground's cabin and tiny house accommodations specifically enable. Penn State University in State College, 15 miles north, provides the cultural, dining, and sporting events of a Big 10 university community that extends the campground's day-trip programming beyond the state forest recreation. Reserve sites and cabins well ahead for fall hunting season and the Penn State home football weekends that drive the Centre County accommodation market to capacity.
