About the Park

Founder, Elton Johnson, owned quite a bit of property on the road and mountain where Rip Van Winkle campgrounds now exist. When it came to his attention that there was space available to build, KOA approached Johnson and planted the seed in his head to build a campground. Johnson politely declined and instead insisted on building the campground his way. So in 1962, the construction started. By 1966, the campground officially opened. Today, the 160 acres that make up Rip Van Winkle campgrounds are now home to nearly 200 campsites, several fun zones, including an outdoor movie theater, swimming pool, R/C tracks, and a soft-serve ice cream shop. Built for “the lover of nature,” Rip Van Winkle campgrounds are unique because of how heavily wooded and spread out it is. Rules

Terms and Conditions: Rates are for One (1) family of Four (4), up to two adults, and two dependent children. -Adult visitors/guests are $10.00 person per night. -Visitors/guests under the age of 18 are $5.00 per person per night—a limit of 6 visitors/guests per site. -Extra tents are $29.00 per tent per night. -Holiday weekends are a three-day minimum stay and must be paid in advance. -There is never an extra AC charge for trailers. -Rates are subject to change without notice. -Discounts by the week, month, or season no discounts on holidays or special promotions. -Cancellations must be received no later than one week (7 days) before the check-in date. All cancellations incur a $5.00 cancellation fee. -Please see Rip's Rules for Fun for other campground rules. While each park attempts to accommodate your exact spot request, the on-site manager has the ultimate decision for spot placement.

Cancellation Policy

-Spot2Nite booking fees are non-refundable. -Cancellations must be received no later than one week (7 days) before the check-in date. All cancellations incur a $5.00 cancellation fee.
