Over The Hill RV Park - Hanna

Hanna, Utah

19 RV Sites, 8 Tent Sites, 3 Onsite RV/Trailers

Along the Duchesne River in Hanna, Utah—in Duchesne County in the high Uinta Basin where the Duchesne River's upper tributaries drain the southern slopes of the Uinta Mountains through a series of ranching valleys and river corridors that the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest's Ashley Forest District manages for the recreation, grazing, and timber uses that the high-plateau Utah landscape balances in its working-landscape tradition—Over The Hill RV Park provides campsites directly along the Duchesne River, with trout fishing available from the campsite itself, alongside tent sites, stationary RV and trailer rentals, and a pavilion suitable for family reunions and gatherings in the Duchesne County mountain setting that Starvation Reservoir, the Uinta Mountains' high-lake backcountry, and the ATV trail network surrounding Hanna make the most directly accessible campground for the outdoor-recreation visitor to the upper Duchesne drainage. Trout fishing from the campsite without walking to a separate water access is the specific convenience that the Duchesne River's direct frontage provides and that most Utah campgrounds cannot offer. Campsites along the Duchesne River provide the immediate river access for anglers who want to wade the riffle from their site without a separate walk to a fishing access point. The Duchesne River's upper tributaries—including the West Fork of the Duchesne—support native Colorado River cutthroat trout and wild brown trout populations in the cold, clear water that the Uinta Mountain snowpack maintains through the summer fishing season. Stationary RV and trailer rental units provide the enclosed lodging alternative for guests without their own RV equipment who want the Duchesne County mountain setting in a fixed structure with utilities. Traditional tent sites with fire rings serve the non-RV camping guest. A pavilion large enough for family reunions and organized group gatherings provides the event infrastructure appropriate to a rural Utah campground whose clients include the extended family group and the church or community organization looking for a mountain retreat with structured space. Starvation Reservoir—Fred Hayes State Park at Starvation, accessible from Hanna—is a 3,495-acre Bureau of Reclamation reservoir in a pinyon-juniper canyon landscape four miles northwest of the city of Duchesne. The reservoir's walleye population is among the most productive in Utah, with the trophy walleye fishing and the multiple tournament events that the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources manages at Starvation drawing anglers specifically for the size class of walleye the reservoir consistently produces. Smallmouth bass, rainbow trout, and brown trout extend the fishing species roster beyond the walleye signature species. The state park marina provides a developed boat ramp, rental cabins, RV camping, a sand beach, and restrooms at the reservoir's eastern shore. The Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest's Ashley District surrounding Hanna provides ATV trail access that Duchesne County's terrain and the forest's designated OHV route system makes available for the trail-riding guest who wants the high-elevation Utah terrain in the specific geography between the Uinta Mountains and the Book Cliffs. The Ashley National Forest's managed OHV routes connect to the more remote high-country terrain that the forest's backcountry hunting and wilderness areas adjoin at their upper edges. Over The Hill RV Park is open seasonally through the Duchesne County outdoor recreation calendar. The summer fishing season from June through September represents the primary demand period. Fall hunting season for elk, deer, and the Duchesne County big-game populations that the Book Cliffs and the Uinta Basin's transition zones support brings the September-through-November hunting camp population. Reserve early for the walleye tournament weekends at Starvation and the summer river fishing season, fish from your site on the Duchesne, and let the high Uinta Basin earn the Utah mountain valley campground experience that the state's Wasatch Front population drives three hours to access on summer weekends.
