Junction West Durango Riverside
Durango, Colorado
97 RV Sites, 2 Cabins
Junction West Durango Riverside Resort stretches along the Animas River in the Hermosa Valley just north of historic downtown Durango, Colorado, delivering a riverside camping experience in one of the American Southwest's most beloved mountain communities. Nestled where the Animas River emerges from the narrow canyon above town and begins its wider valley run through Hermosa Creek's confluence, the resort provides guests with the sound and visual presence of the river as a constant companion while placing them minutes from Durango's acclaimed downtown dining, craft brewery scene, and the narrow-gauge railroad that has been carrying passengers through the San Juan Mountains since 1882.
Full hookup sites with water, electric, and sewer service accommodate a range of RVs along the riverside setting, and on-site amenities include a swimming pool, a general store, game room, dining, and a boutique shop—a comprehensive roster that reduces the need to leave the property for basic needs while leaving the full texture of Durango's commercial and cultural district accessible within minutes. The playground serves younger guests, and the laundry facility addresses the practical needs of extended-stay visitors taking advantage of the surrounding recreation for multi-day or week-long visits.
The Animas River valley above Durango is defined by the geological drama of the San Juan Mountains, where volcanic calderas, laccolith intrusions, and the erosive power of the river system have created an exceptionally varied and visually striking landscape of high mesa farmland, narrow river canyons, and the mining-era infrastructure left by the late nineteenth-century silver and gold rush that put Durango on the map as a supply hub. The Hermosa Valley's agricultural character—hay fields and cattle ranches backed by forested mountain slopes—creates a pastoral foreground for the peaks of the Weminuche Wilderness visible on the skyline to the northeast.
The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, departing from Durango's historic downtown depot, carries passengers through 45 miles of otherwise roadless San Juan Mountain wilderness on a coal-fired steam train that is both a functional excursion railway and a living piece of Colorado railroad heritage dating to 1882. The Million Dollar Highway—US-550 north from Durango through Silverton and Ouray—is one of the most celebrated mountain drives in the American West, climbing through multiple 11,000-foot passes and connecting a string of historic mining communities. Mesa Verde National Park, protecting the most spectacular Ancestral Puebloan cliff dwellings in North America, is approximately 35 miles west via US-160.
Junction West Durango Riverside Resort operates seasonally from spring through fall, with the summer season driving peak demand from the combination of San Juan Mountains hiking and biking visitors, Animas River water sports enthusiasts, and the enormous visitor flow that the narrow-gauge railroad and Mesa Verde National Park draw to the Durango area annually. Fall's aspen color change across the surrounding mountain slopes creates a second surge of scenic drive and photography visitors in late September and October. The resort's riverside setting and proximity to downtown Durango's exceptional dining and entertainment give it a strong competitive position among Durango-area campgrounds for guests who want both natural immersion and urban access.
