Chinook RV Resort
Klamath, California
15 RV Sites, 2 Cabins, 6 Tent Sites, 1 Onsite RV/Trailer
Framed by towering coast redwoods and positioned along the U.S. Highway 101 corridor near Klamath in Del Norte County, Chinook RV Resort offers a natural retreat at the intersection of the Klamath River and the Pacific Coast—one of Northern California's most scenically distinctive settings and a prime gateway for exploring the old-growth redwood forests that define the region's character. The combination of riverside proximity, towering tree canopy, and immediate access to Redwood National and State Parks makes the resort a compelling basecamp for guests drawn to Northern California's redwood coast.
The resort accommodates guests in RV sites, rental cabins, and tent sites, providing lodging options suited to different camping styles and group preferences. An on-site lake with a lakefront fire gathering area serves as the social hub of the property in the evenings, where guests collect to unwind after days spent on the trails and beaches of the surrounding park system. The property's compact, nature-forward character gives it a quieter atmosphere compared to larger resort operations elsewhere along the Highway 101 corridor, and the lakefront fire setting is among the most atmospheric features of an evening spent at the resort.
Redwood National Park—combined with Prairie Creek Redwoods, Del Norte Coast Redwoods, and Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Parks—forms one of the most intact old-growth redwood ecosystems remaining on the Pacific Coast, and Chinook RV Resort sits in close proximity to several of the system's most rewarding access points. Fern Canyon in Prairie Creek, where vertical canyon walls are carpeted in five-finger ferns, is accessible for wading hikes during summer. Enderts Beach offers a secluded cove with tide pools and driftwood-covered shores, and High Bluff Overlook provides sweeping coastal views and seasonal gray whale watching during winter and spring migration along the coast.
The town of Klamath straddles the Klamath River at its mouth, and the river's lower section is productive for salmon and steelhead—a significant draw for anglers who pair a resort stay with fishing on one of California's premier coastal rivers. The Trees of Mystery attraction in Klamath, featuring a gondola ride through old-growth canopy and a Native American museum, adds a family-friendly option close by. The Redwood Coast Music Festival in Eureka brings jazz, blues, and folk performances to the coast each April for guests timing their visit to the spring shoulder season.
Chinook RV Resort is best positioned for late spring through early fall visits, when the redwood parks are fully accessible and the coastal climate is most accommodating for outdoor activity. Summer fog is common along the Del Norte coast, moderating temperatures but sometimes limiting visibility at coastal overlooks during morning hours. Reservations are recommended well ahead of summer and fall peak periods, when demand for Redwood National Park-adjacent accommodations consistently outpaces available supply along this stretch of the Northern California coast. The property's lakeside social setting and its position within the redwood park network make it a well-rounded Northern California basecamp for guests who want both active trail access and a relaxed evening atmosphere at the end of each day.
