On Barnard Street in Glen Rose, Texas—in Somervell County where the Paluxy River's limestone bedrock preserves the actual footprints of sauropods and theropods from 113 million years ago in the trackway exposures that Dinosaur Valley State Park maintains as the most significant visible dinosaur track site in the United States, and where Fossil Rim Wildlife Center's 1,800 acres of managed savanna support the giraffes, cheetahs, rhinos, and endangered ungulates that make it the most substantial conservation breeding operation in Texas—Barnard Street RV Park provides full hookup RV sites and on-site trailer rentals on grassy, shaded lots within walking distance of the Paluxy River in the family-owned configuration that Glen Rose's position between Dallas-Fort Worth and the Hill Country makes strategically valuable as a two-hour escape from the Metroplex. The dinosaur tracks are the reason most families come to Glen Rose; the Paluxy River access from the campground is the reason they stay longer than planned. Full hookup RV sites on large, clean, shaded grassy lots—some with canopy cover from the mature trees that the Barnard Street setting has maintained—provide the comfortable base from which the Somervell County day-trip calendar operates. On-site trailer rentals serve the guests without RV equipment who specifically want the Glen Rose overnight experience within walking range of the river. Laundry facilities handle the practical extended-stay requirement. The owner-operated, family-oriented character of the campground reflects the Glen Rose community's hospitality culture, where local knowledge and genuinely helpful owners improve the first-time visitor's experience in ways that chain-managed properties typically don't replicate. Dinosaur Valley State Park, a short drive from the campground, preserves the Paluxy River dinosaur trackways in a natural limestone riverbed where visitors can walk directly into the trackway exposures and place their feet beside the footprints of animals that walked the same limestone mudflat 113 million years ago. The parallel sauropod and theropod trackways—including the longest continuous sauropod trackway in the world—constitute the most immediate and physical connection to prehistoric life available at any Texas state park. Dinosaur World's outdoor fossil exhibits and the Historic Downtown Glen Rose Square's 1893 courthouse and surrounding shops provide additional cultural programming. Fossil Rim Wildlife Center's drive-through wildlife experience—where giraffes insert their heads into visitor vehicles to consume the provided feed pellets and endangered species walk within feet of the car windows—consistently produces the most visceral wildlife encounter available within two hours of DFW for families without international safari budgets. The eight-mile drive-through route covers 1,800 acres of Somervell County ranch land managed as conservation habitat for 50-plus species, including 12 critically endangered species in the park's active breeding programs. The on-site Foothills Safari Camp provides the overnight wildlife immersion option that extends the Fossil Rim experience beyond the drive-through format. Barnard Street RV Park is open year-round in Glen Rose's temperate Texas climate. The spring wildflower season covers Somervell County's roadsides in bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush from March through April. Summer brings the Paluxy River tubing season and the highest park attendance at Dinosaur Valley, when the track exposures are most visible in the clear, low-water conditions. The Paluxy River's gentle current and the highway 67 corridor's direct DFW connection make Glen Rose one of the most logistically accessible family camping destinations in north Texas. Reserve the shaded Barnard Street site, pack the inflatable inner tube, and let Somervell County's 113-million-year-old dinosaur tracks earn what Texas's prehistoric heritage looks like in its most visible and tangible form.
