Bear Mountain Cabins and Campgrounds sits at 130 Laurel Creek Road in Fayetteville, West Virginia, one mile from the New River Gorge and three to four minutes from the historic downtown of one of the Appalachians' most outdoor-focused communities. The bear mountain cabins and campground property is the closest private camping facility to the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve—a designation the National Park Service granted to what was already the region's premier adventure destination—placing guests within genuine proximity to the gorge's bridge, rafting, rock climbing, and hiking infrastructure. Accommodation at Bear Mountain covers a wide spectrum: full hookup RV sites with electric and water ($43/night) or full sewer ($52/night) serve traveling campers, while a range of cabin options serve visitors who prefer enclosed accommodation. Amish-built cabins sleeping five and Upper Meadow log cabins with fireplaces sleeping five are available for couples and smaller families, while the two-story Cheat Log Cabin sleeps up to nine guests with a fully equipped kitchen, wood-burning fireplace, and wraparound porch—a genuine mountain house rental rather than a camping cabin. The general store stocks snacks, firewood, and hand-dipped ice cream, multiple playgrounds serve families, a dump station handles RV logistics, and showers and laundry are available seasonally. Fayetteville, West Virginia, is a small Appalachian town that has transformed over the past three decades into one of the East Coast's premier outdoor recreation communities—a Main Street lined with outfitters, restaurants, and breweries serving a visitor base drawn primarily by the gorge and its whitewater rivers. The New River Gorge Bridge, completed in 1977, is the longest single-span steel arch bridge in the Western Hemisphere, stretching 3,030 feet across a gorge 876 feet above the New River. Each October, Bridge Day draws hundreds of thousands of visitors for BASE jumping and rappelling off the bridge structure in one of the largest extreme sports events in the world. The New River itself is a geological curiosity—one of the oldest rivers in North America, flowing north rather than south, through a gorge that predates the Appalachian Mountains themselves. Whitewater rafting on the New River's lower gorge section offers Class III to V rapids in scenery of towering sandstone cliffs and old-growth river corridor, and the Gauley River, about 40 minutes away, delivers some of the most demanding commercial rafting in the eastern United States when the Corps of Engineers releases water in autumn. Over 100 miles of hiking trails, 80-plus rock climbing routes, and mountain biking on the Grandview Rim Trail system round out the active recreation options. Bear Mountain operates year-round, making it accessible for the popular spring rafting season, peak summer hiking, fall Bridge Day festivities, and winter climbing when the gorge crowds thin considerably. The campground's 1-mile proximity to the park entrance positions it as the most convenient private base for full gorge immersion, and the combination of RV sites, cabins, and larger cabin-houses makes it the rare campground that can accommodate solo travelers, couples, and large family groups in the same visit.

The sites were excellent. We stayed right behind the office/camp store. It was close to the laundry and showers. Best camp showers/restroom ever! Close the New River Gorge National Park and essential shopping. Thanks for the great, restful stay.
