Colinas RV Park

Elgin, Texas

35 RV Sites

Colinas RV Park in Elgin, Texas, provides a quiet, country-style stop just off Highway 290 between Austin and Houston, serving RV travelers who want to avoid the congestion and pricing of Austin-area campgrounds while maintaining easy access to one of the country's most dynamic and fastest-growing metropolitan areas. Positioned in Bastrop County's prairie and post-oak landscape east of the Colorado River, the park sits in a transitional zone where Central Texas's limestone hills give way to the coastal prairie—a landscape increasingly prized by Austin-area residents seeking rural character within a practical commute of the city. The park's full hookup sites with water, electric, and sewer connections accommodate a range of RV sizes on big-rig-friendly pads, and the gated entrance, laundry, Wi-Fi, and pet-friendly policies create the practical amenity set that extended-stay guests and through-travelers both require. The park's deliberate focus on fundamental quality over resort-style extras suits the travel culture of Highway 290 corridor travelers—often experienced long-haulers who measure a campground by its hookup reliability, rig access, and peacefulness rather than on-site programming. Stargazing in Bastrop County's darker skies east of Austin's urban glow is a natural amenity that needs no infrastructure investment. Elgin occupies a position in Bastrop County that places it at the intersection of two significant Texas cultural geographies: the sausage-making tradition that earned the town the nickname Sausage Capital of Texas, celebrated in its working meat markets and the annual Elgin Great Sausage Cook-off, and the broader Lost Pines region where an isolated stand of loblolly pine forest—genetically distinct from the East Texas Piney Woods 100 miles to the east—grows on sandy soils deposited by the Colorado River during glacial-era flooding. Bastrop State Park, approximately 20 miles southeast of Elgin via TX-71, protects a significant portion of the Lost Pines ecosystem alongside cabins constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, hiking trails through the pine forest, and a swimming pool that operates during summer months. The park's long recovery from the devastating 2011 wildfires that burned over 95 percent of the park's pine canopy is itself an ecological story of genuine interest, and the forest's regeneration provides a living lesson in forest succession visible at every visit. Austin's full urban amenity roster—from Barton Springs Pool and Zilker Park to the 6th Street entertainment corridor and the South Congress boutique district—lies approximately 30 miles west via Highway 290. Colinas RV Park operates year-round in Central Texas's moderate climate, with spring and fall representing the most comfortable seasons for the outdoor exploration that the surrounding Bastrop County landscape offers. Summer's heat is genuine but moderated by the park's rural setting east of the city's urban heat island, and the park's affordability relative to Austin-area alternatives makes it an attractive choice for budget-conscious travelers who prioritize value and quiet over proximity to the urban core. Highway 290's increasing development pressure makes properties like Colinas RV Park increasingly valuable as genuine rural alternatives in a county that is rapidly transitioning from agricultural to suburban character.
