Tiny Village Ottawa River

Deep River, Ontario

13 RV Sites, 2 Tent Sites

Tiny Village Ottawa River in Deep River, Ontario, offers a distinctive rustic camping and glamping retreat on the banks of the Ottawa River in Renfrew County, where the mighty river that defines the Ontario-Quebec border flows through a dramatic landscape of Canadian Shield granite, boreal forest, and the whitewater rapids that have attracted canoeists and kayakers to the upper Ottawa corridor since the fur trade era transformed this waterway into the primary commercial artery of New France. Positioned in one of Ontario's most scenically pristine river communities, the campground provides a genuinely remote and nature-immersive experience within driving distance of Canada's National Capital Region. The campground's facilities are purposefully rustic, connecting guests to the Ottawa River experience without the resort infrastructure that would compromise the natural setting's character: a beach for swimming and launching watercraft, boat docks for guests who arrive by water or bring small craft, a general store for essential resupply, showers, bathrooms, a dump station, and Wi-Fi support the practical needs of guests committed to river-centered camping. Walking trails through the surrounding boreal forest and a playground serve families whose camping itinerary includes both active exploration and the relaxed pace that riverfront camping in the Canadian Shield naturally encourages. Off-road vehicle access nearby extends the property's recreation footprint. The Ottawa River at Deep River flows through the Canadian Shield's ancient Precambrian granite in a landscape that has changed little since the Algonquin peoples who inhabited this territory for thousands of years paddled the same waters that modern canoeists now explore on multi-day river expeditions. The river's power is most dramatically apparent at Rocher Fendu—the Split Rock section near Pembroke—where the river narrows and the current intensifies, and the whitewater rafting operations throughout the Ottawa Valley make this section of the river one of the premier commercial whitewater destinations in eastern Canada. Deep River's unique character as a planned community built to house scientists and engineers working at the nearby Chalk River Laboratories—Canada's primary nuclear research facility since 1944—gives the town an intellectual and cultural character unusual in a community of its size, with the Deep River Science Academy and the community's longstanding tradition of international scientific exchange creating a distinctive social fabric alongside the outdoor recreation that defines life in this stretch of the Ottawa Valley. Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario's largest and most celebrated protected area, lies approximately 80 kilometers south, providing additional wilderness recreation within the region. Tiny Village Ottawa River operates seasonally from late spring through early fall, with the Ottawa River's whitewater season and the summer camping window from June through August driving peak visitation to the Deep River area. Canoe tripping season on the Ottawa River and its tributary lakes and rivers extends from ice-out in May through September, and the campground's boat dock access makes it a logical staging point for paddlers launching multi-day Ottawa River expeditions. Fall's spectacular foliage display across the Canadian Shield's mixed forest adds a compelling seasonal draw before the October closure.
