Winona Lake Campground in Lima, Ohio, provides a private lakefront family campground in Allen County's west-central Ohio agricultural landscape, offering a quiet swimming and fishing retreat on a private lake with mini-golf, sports courts for tennis and basketball, and inflatable water toys in a comfortable camping environment that serves the local and regional family camping community seeking straightforward lake access without the programming complexity of larger resort campgrounds. Lima's position in the Great Black Swamp's drained agricultural plain at the center of northwestern Ohio's lake-country corridor places the campground within reach of the Indian Lake and Grand Lake St. Marys reservoir systems that define outdoor recreation in the surrounding counties. The campground's facility is oriented toward the essentials of lake camping: a private lake for swimming and fishing for bass, bluegill, and catfish in a stocked Ohio lake environment, inflatable water toys on the water, mini-golf, sports courts for basketball and tennis, a pond, full hookup sites, and pet-friendly policies provide the uncomplicated family recreation that makes a private lake campground rewarding for guests who want lake access rather than resort programming. The campground's intimate scale creates a comfortable and familiar community atmosphere that larger commercial campgrounds sacrifice to the economies of high-volume seasonal operation, and the Allen County setting's proximity to Lima's commercial services provides convenient resupply access. Lima is the Allen County seat and the economic center of northwestern Ohio's agricultural and manufacturing corridor, a city built on the oil boom of the 1880s when Allen County became one of Ohio's most productive petroleum fields and the manufacturing infrastructure that Lima Locomotive Works and the subsequent industrial economy created. The Allen County Museum's natural history and local history collections document the Great Black Swamp's ecological transformation from the impenetrable wetland that deterred European settlement until systematic drainage canals beginning in the 1850s converted it to some of Ohio's most productive agricultural land. The Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center reflects Lima's ongoing role as the regional center of a productive agricultural and industrial county. Indian Lake, approximately 35 miles southwest of Lima in Logan County, is one of Ohio's largest inland lakes—a state reservoir surrounded by the Indian Lake State Park's developed recreation infrastructure with boating, beach swimming, fishing for walleye and crappie, and the cottage community character that makes Indian Lake one of the most popular family recreation lakes in western Ohio. Grand Lake St. Marys in Auglaize County, approximately 25 miles west of Lima, is a man-made lake built in the 1820s as a feeder reservoir for the Ohio and Erie Canal system and now serves as Ohio's most popular fishing lake for catfish, bass, and bluegill in a shore environment of developed marinas and lakeside communities. Winona Lake Campground operates seasonally from spring through fall in Allen County's four-season continental climate, with the summer swimming and fishing season from late May through Labor Day representing the peak period when the private lake's warm water and the inflatable water toys make the campground's on-water recreation most active and appealing for the family camping demographic. The Ohio wildflower spring in April and May and the fall foliage color through October frame the shoulder seasons with natural visual interest, and the campground's intimate scale and genuine private-lake character offer a respite from the more commercially intensive resort campground experience that northwestern Ohio families whose camping preference runs toward peaceful lake access over organized entertainment programming find most rewarding.

This is a small campground with many seasonal campers. The management helped us find an open site and was very helpful. Park was quiet , but it was also rainy during our one night stay. There is a real nice waterpark in the front of the campground for kids to play on. Our one night stay was a little pricey.
