JoeIda Campground

Shingleton, Michigan

8 RV Sites

JoeIda Campground in Shingleton, Michigan, offers eight RV sites in back-in and pull-through configurations, sized for rigs to 85 feet, one mile off Highway H-58 in the heart of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore country. Sites run $25 per night including one trailer plus one tent, or two tents. Eight sites accommodate rigs to 85 feet in back-in and pull-through layouts. These are unserviced sites without hookups, so arrive self-contained and plan water and power accordingly. Restrooms are on site. Pricing is refreshingly simple: $25 per night covers one trailer and one tent, or two tents, with each additional tent $5 and each additional trailer $10. Pets are welcome. The campground keeps things deliberately basic, which is what the setting calls for. This is Upper Peninsula camping in its traditional form — quiet, wooded, and close to the water without resort infrastructure between you and it. Shingleton sits in Alger County between Munising and Grand Marais, one mile south of Kingston Lake. Pictured Rocks' multicolored sandstone and conglomerate cliffs rise 200 feet above Lake Superior along 15 miles of the most photographed shoreline on the Great Lakes, and the Miners Beach, Chapel Falls, and Spray Falls trail systems run from the lakeshore. The area's isolation from commercial development preserves the darkness and forest silence that Upper Peninsula tourist literature promises and most developed areas no longer deliver. Directions from the Mackinac Bridge: follow M-28 to Seney, then at the blinking light turn right (north) on M-77 toward Grand Marais. The northern season is short. Summer is decisively the peak — reserve ahead.
