Wakeside Lake RV Park
Rexburg, Idaho
24 RV Sites, 1 Cabin, 2 Glamping Sites
Wakeside Lake RV Park in Rexburg, Idaho, spreads across 34 private acres anchored by an on-site lake in eastern Idaho's upper Snake River Plain, offering a self-contained lakeside camping experience that combines direct water access with positioning near some of the American West's most spectacular natural attractions. Located in Madison County between the rolling agricultural benchlands of the Snake River Valley and the volcanic tablelands leading toward Yellowstone's caldera, the park serves both destination campers and visitors using eastern Idaho as a base for major national park exploration.
The park's 34-acre footprint includes a private lake with a sandy beach and a boat ramp that connects guests directly to non-motorized watercraft use, swimming, and fishing without requiring any drive to a public access point. Full hookup sites with water, electric, and sewer service accommodate a range of RV sizes on well-maintained pads, and the park's relatively low density ensures that the lake and beach amenities feel genuinely accessible rather than overcrowded during peak season. The combination of private lake recreation and solid RV infrastructure creates a resort-feel experience at a campground price point.
Eastern Idaho's landscape is shaped by the violent geological forces of the Snake River Plain—a broad rift valley paved by successive lava flows from the Yellowstone hotspot and carved by the Snake River's ancient flood channels. The benchlands around Rexburg support agriculture, particularly sugar beet and potato production, while the surrounding terrain transitions rapidly into basalt escarpments, lava tube caves, and the dramatic volcanic topography of Craters of the Moon National Monument to the west. The region's high elevation—Rexburg sits above 4,800 feet—delivers cool nights even in midsummer and a genuinely four-season climate.
Yellowstone National Park's west and south entrances are accessible within approximately one hour of Rexburg, placing the world's first national park within comfortable day-trip range for guests based at the park. Henry's Fork of the Snake River—one of the premier fly fishing destinations in North America, famous for its large wild rainbow trout and the demanding technical fishing required on its flat, clear waters—flows through Island Park a short drive northeast of Rexburg. Mesa Falls Scenic Byway leads visitors to Upper and Lower Mesa Falls, two of the most dramatic waterfalls in Idaho and among the few intact waterfalls remaining on the Snake River system.
Wakeside Lake RV Park operates seasonally from late spring through early fall, with peak demand concentrated in July and August when Yellowstone visitation is at maximum and Idaho's warm summer weather makes the lake's swimming and paddling amenities most appealing. The park's private lake provides a meaningful point of differentiation from other Rexburg-area campgrounds, giving guests a recreation asset that doesn't require a drive to reach. Advance reservations are recommended for summer weekends and the Yellowstone peak season, when eastern Idaho's limited lodging inventory fills well ahead of arrival dates.
