Fourteen miles east of Durango on the Pine River in the high country of La Plata County, Colorado, Outdoorsy Bayfield has transformed a 36-acre riverside parcel in the San Juan Mountains' eastern foothills into one of the Four Corners region's most comprehensive glamping and RV resort experiences—61 full-hookup RV sites, 18 luxury glamping tents, tent camping positions, and private trout fishing access on the Pine River that only registered guests can use. Disc golf, e-bike rentals, paddleboard adventures, an off-leash dog park, and a fully stocked camp store complete a resort environment that attracts both the cross-country RV traveler using Durango as a base and the destination glamping guest who plans a San Juan Mountains stay specifically around this property. Sixty-one full-hookup RV sites with 30 or 50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections on gravel back-in and pull-through pads provide the practical accommodation for self-contained rigs, while 18 luxury glamping tents take the riverside resort experience into a furnished-canvas category that makes the Pine River valley's mountain atmosphere accessible to guests who arrive without equipment. Full private hot showers, fast Wi-Fi, a fully stocked camp store, and on-site laundry support both accommodation types in a single river resort infrastructure. An off-leash dog park, horseshoe pit, basketball court, and disc golf course extend the on-property recreational menu for guests who want activity between national forest excursions. The Pine River runs through the property's 36 acres in the cold, clear snowmelt flow that characterizes San Juan Mountain streams in southwest Colorado—water that maintains the temperature and clarity that wild rainbow and brown trout require, and that the campground's private-access guest fishing policy reserves for overnight guests rather than the general public. Walking trails through the riverside property connect the campground's outdoor spaces with the cottonwood and willow corridor that frames the Pine River's bank through the Bayfield valley, and the broader Pine River Valley's hiking terrain extends beyond the property into the San Juan National Forest's trail network to the east. Vallecito Lake, one of southwest Colorado's most beloved mountain reservoir destinations, lies about 15 miles northeast of Bayfield in the San Juan National Forest—a 2,700-acre reservoir in the Vallecito Creek drainage that provides boat fishing for rainbow trout, brown trout, and kokanee salmon alongside the boating, swimming, and mountain scenery that draws summer visitors to one of Colorado's most photogenic lakeside communities. Durango, 14 miles west, provides the urban amenity range of a vibrant Colorado mountain town alongside the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad—one of the most celebrated mountain rail excursions in the American West, operating 45-mile steam-powered round trips through the Animas River Canyon in a daily tradition that dates to 1882. The San Juan Mountains' high-country climate delivers warm sunny days and reliably cool nights at Bayfield's 6,900-foot elevation throughout the summer camping season, with the wildflower season peaking in July on the surrounding mountain meadows and the aspen color season creating the fall gold display that draws photographers to southwest Colorado each September and October. Mesa Verde National Park, about 50 miles west through the Durango corridor, provides the most significant Native American cultural destination in the American Southwest in the Ancestral Puebloan cliff dwellings that have drawn archaeologists and visitors since the 1880s. Reserve summer dates well ahead, as the combination of Pine River access, Durango proximity, and the resort's glamping-and-RV hybrid format creates demand that fills the campground's capacity weeks before peak season arrives.

Very accommodating when we needed to have a late check out due to a repair in progress for our Airstream and stay an extra night on a Holiday when the office was closed.

Beautiful grounds! Loved how this campground was tucked away from the main road opening up to a beautifully manicured area. Christmas lights on trees and bridges to help navigate at night…and add to the charm! Adirondack chairs and fire pits placed around the grounds for wonderful moments listening to the b...Show more

Great resort and facility, with nice green space and amenities. We spent four days there as a base for trips to Mesa Verdi, Silverton Rail Road (Do the one way only, too long otherwise), biking on Animous River Trail (Awesome).
