Robert's Roost Resort
Quesnel, British Columbia
46 RV Sites, 2 Cabins, 12 Tent Sites, 2 Mobile Homes, 1 Onsite RV/Trailer
Robert's Roost Resort sits on the shores of Dragon Lake on the south edge of Quesnel, British Columbia, occupying a quiet lakeside setting in the Cariboo region that has drawn anglers and outdoor travelers to this stretch of central BC for generations. Roberts roost is positioned on a lake with a world-class reputation among fly-fishing enthusiasts—Dragon Lake is known across the province for its exceptional trout fishing—making this one of the more specialized camping destinations in British Columbia's interior.
The resort provides 52 RV sites with full hookups including water, electric, sewer, WiFi, cable TV, and laundry access. Lakeside accommodations offer a different scale of experience: two mobile homes and a large executive house provide multi-night living arrangements for groups and families who want enclosed accommodations with lake access. Paddle boards, kayaks, and boat rentals are available directly from the dock system, giving guests immediate access to Dragon Lake without equipment logistics. A bistro serves snacks and drinks, community fire pits create gathering points in the evenings, an outdoor fireplace anchors the common area, mini golf provides casual daytime entertainment, and the well-maintained grounds include a children's playground and picnic areas throughout the property.
Dragon Lake's reputation is built on its rainbow trout and kokanee fishery, supported by careful management that has maintained exceptional catch quality over many decades of angling pressure. The resort's dock system provides direct casting access to prime lake water, and the kayak and paddleboard rentals allow guests to reach the quieter coves and points that produce consistent fishing throughout the season. Quesnel itself sits at the confluence of the Quesnel and Fraser Rivers, a geographic position that anchors both the city's commercial importance and its appeal to river anglers pursuing salmon in season.
Barkerville Historic Town and Park, British Columbia's most significant gold rush heritage site, lies about 80 kilometers east of Quesnel and provides a full day's exploration of the restored 1860s Cariboo gold rush town where authentic buildings, costumed interpreters, and active gold panning bring the province's most dramatic historical period to life. The Bowron Lake Canoe Circuit, one of Canada's premier backcountry canoe routes, begins about 120 kilometers northeast—a 116-kilometer wilderness loop through a chain of lakes and rivers that serious paddlers travel from around the world to complete. The Cariboo Chilcotin Coast regional landscape offers additional fly-fishing lakes, ranch country, and First Nations cultural sites throughout the summer season.
Robert's Roost Resort operates through the Cariboo summer camping season, with peak demand in July and August when the fishing is excellent and the days are long. Spring and early fall bring the most committed anglers chasing Dragon Lake's trophy trout in cooler, less-pressured conditions. The combination of a world-class fishery, quality lakeside accommodations, and the cultural and wilderness richness of the Cariboo makes Roberts Roost a destination resort for a specific kind of traveler—one for whom the fishing matters as much as the amenities.
