Camp Sandusky
Sandusky, Ohio
68 RV Sites, 92 Cabins, 38 Tent Sites
Six miles from America's roller coaster capital and set beneath the shade of mature trees that line the sites, Camp Sandusky delivers a well-priced, family-friendly campground experience in Sandusky, Ohio that serves as the perfect base camp for Cedar Point, the Lake Erie islands, and the surprising range of outdoor and cultural attractions that make this stretch of the Ohio lakeshore genuinely rewarding. Located at 3518 Tiffin Avenue, the park keeps its nightly rates deliberately reasonable while investing in the fiber WiFi, clean facilities, and family programming that keep guests comfortable and coming back year after year.
The campground offers a mix of back-in and pull-through sites, many under the shade of established trees that soften the summer heat in ways that open-field parks simply cannot match. Most sites include a picnic table and fire ring, creating the classic campsite experience alongside modern utilities. Shared charcoal grills are located throughout the grounds for guests who want to cook out without fire ring logistics. A seasonal swimming pool, playground, and other family-friendly features round out the recreational on-site, and the cashless operation streamlines the check-in and pay process for the growing share of guests who've left paper money behind. Fiber WiFi reaches throughout the grounds.
Sandusky's Lake Erie shoreline occupies a stretch of the Ohio coast where the lake widens to its fullest extent, creating the shallowest and warmest of the Great Lakes—a characteristic that makes Lake Erie's water temperatures more swimming-friendly than its northern counterparts by mid-June. Sandusky Bay cuts inland to create a protected harbor that has supported commercial fishing and recreational boating for more than 150 years, and the surrounding marshes and wetlands serve as critical habitat for migratory waterfowl following the Lake Erie flyway corridor each spring and fall.
Cedar Point, six miles from camp, is broadly considered one of the finest amusement parks in the world, home to 17 roller coasters including several world record holders and the legendary Top Thrill 2. The Lighthouse Point campground inside Cedar Point provides an alternative for those who want to camp within the park itself, but Camp Sandusky's proximity and lower rates make it the practical choice for multi-day Cedar Point visitors. The Lake Erie islands—Kelleys Island, South Bass Island, and Put-in-Bay—are accessible by ferry from the Sandusky waterfront and offer a dramatically different tempo from the thrill-park scene: quiet nature preserves, glacially-carved limestone formations, and some of the best walleye fishing in North America.
Camp season runs May through September at Camp Sandusky, with July and August at full capacity for families working through the Cedar Point itinerary. Late May and September offer the best combination of pleasant weather, lower crowds at the park, and better site availability at the campground. The Sandusky area's mix of natural and constructed attractions makes it unusually versatile for family trips that need to satisfy both the thrill-seekers and the nature lovers in the same group. Reserve your shaded site at Camp Sandusky and make Sandusky the centerpiece of your Lake Erie adventure.
