Route 66 RV Park

Edgewood, New Mexico

3 Tent Sites

Route 66 RV Park sits at Exit 187 of Interstate 40 in Edgewood, New Mexico, on the historic alignment of Route 66 in the East Mountains east of Albuquerque—one of the most geographically strategic campground positions in New Mexico, with Albuquerque 30 minutes to the west and Santa Fe 45 minutes to the north and panoramic views of the Sandia Crest and the Santa Fe Mountains visible from the park on clear days. The location gives travelers on the I-40 corridor access to both New Mexico cities in the same base camp without driving into the congestion of either metropolitan center. Sites accommodate 30 and 50-amp full hookup rigs with pull-throughs up to 100 feet, and the park also offers tent sites for non-RV campers. Amenities include two dog parks, WiFi, laundry, showers, a dump station, propane, and an on-site barn. An on-site food truck (seasonal) reduces the need to drive for a meal. Gold panning and gem mining activities are available for guests who want an activity that doesn't require leaving the property, and a jumping pillow provides children's entertainment. The campground's Barn can be used for gatherings, and the whole property is pet-friendly. Edgewood occupies a plateau in the East Mountains at roughly 6,800 feet elevation, in the Turquoise Trail corridor that connects Albuquerque to Santa Fe along the historic state road that predates I-25 as the primary link between New Mexico's two largest cities. The Sandia Mountains rise immediately to the west, their granite and limestone backbone reaching 10,678 feet at Sandia Crest—visible from the park's sites as an unobstructed western backdrop that turns pink in the alpenglow that gave the range its Spanish name. The Turquoise Trail National Scenic Byway passes through Tijeras Canyon below the park and continues north through the old mining towns of Madrid and Cerrillos. Albuquerque's full visitor infrastructure is 30 minutes west: Sandia Peak Tramway—the world's longest aerial tram—climbs from the base of the mountains to the summit of Sandia Crest in a ride that covers over 10,000 feet of horizontal distance and delivers views across the Rio Grande valley that extend to Mount Taylor on clear days. Old Town Albuquerque, the Albuquerque International Balloon Museum, the ABQ BioPark Zoo, and the New Mexico Museum of Natural History provide the city's primary visitor destinations. Santa Fe, 45 minutes north, anchors New Mexico's arts and cultural tourism economy with the Palace of the Governors, the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, Canyon Road gallery district, and the Santa Fe Plaza. Route 66 RV Park operates year-round in the East Mountains' high-desert climate, where the 6,800-foot elevation delivers cooler summer temperatures than the Rio Grande valley below—a consistent 10 to 15 degrees cooler than Albuquerque on summer afternoons—and winter snowfall that makes the park a viable base for ski trips to Sandia Peak Ski Area. The equidistant position between Albuquerque and Santa Fe is the park's defining advantage for travelers who want to cover both cities without commuting from within either one.
