Choteau Mountain View RV Campground
Choteau, Montana
18 RV Sites, 3 Cabins, 6 Tent Sites
Positioned along the Rocky Mountain Front on the eastern edge of the Rockies near Choteau, Montana, Choteau Mountain View RV Campground delivers panoramic views of the mountain range—including the distinctive silhouette of Ear Mountain—from a property that sits at the interface between Montana's high plains and its alpine terrain. The location in Teton County places the campground within 90 miles of Glacier National Park's St. Mary entrance, making it a natural overnight stop for travelers on north-south routes through western Montana and a comfortable staging point for those exploring the Bob Marshall Wilderness corridor to the south.
The campground operates with the character of a family-run property, emphasizing personal hospitality and a small-scale hosting experience over resort-style programming. Sites accommodate RVs of various sizes, and the property is positioned within walking distance of downtown Choteau's core services. The town of Choteau supports multiple restaurants, gas stations with propane service, a pharmacy, and a full-service grocery store, giving guests straightforward access to provisions and fuel without requiring a significant detour during their stay.
The Rocky Mountain Front landscape surrounding Choteau is defined by the dramatic east-facing escarpments where the Rockies rise abruptly from the high plains—creating unobstructed mountain panoramas that require substantially more effort to access in most other parts of Montana. Ear Mountain, visible from the campground, is among the most recognizable formations along the Front, and the surrounding terrain supports extensive wildlife activity including resident populations of grizzly bears, wolves, bighorn sheep, and elk that inhabit the wilderness interface along the foothills. Trailhead access to the Bob Marshall Wilderness and Sun River Wildlife Management Area is available within a short drive of the campground.
The Old Trail Museum in downtown Choteau offers a well-regarded exploration of the region's paleontological heritage—Teton County sits in the heart of one of the world's most productive dinosaur fossil localities, and the museum's exhibits reflect decades of significant scientific discovery in the surrounding badlands. Historic buildings along Choteau's main street, including the 1906 Courthouse, give the town a preserved character, and local antique stores provide casual browsing for guests spending a rest day in town between forays into the surrounding mountains and wilderness areas.
Choteau Mountain View RV Campground is accessible across the warmer seasons, with summer representing the peak window for Glacier National Park visits and Rocky Mountain Front recreation. Glacier's Going-to-the-Sun Road is typically open from late June through mid-October, making the campground most strategically useful as a Glacier staging point during those months. Guests traveling the Rocky Mountain Front during summer holiday weekends should book ahead, as demand from Glacier-bound travelers increases competition for sites throughout the Choteau area. The campground's proximity to both the plains and the mountain wilderness gives it a dual-access quality that few Montana campgrounds outside the Glacier corridor can match at comparable elevation. Few campgrounds along the Rocky Mountain Front combine this level of direct mountain-view access with walkable town services.
