Conestoga Grand River Campground
Coopersville, Michigan
Conestoga Grand River Campground sits at 9720 Oriole Drive in Coopersville, Michigan—a 100-site Ottawa County campground on the Grand River between Grand Rapids and Grand Haven, with deep water access to the river corridor that connects to Lake Michigan at Grand Haven. The Grand River is Michigan's longest river and one of the most productive warmwater fishing streams in the lower Great Lakes region, providing the flowing water environment that distinguishes Conestoga from the lake-based campgrounds that dominate the western Michigan recreational camping market.
One hundred grassy sites nestled under mature trees accommodate a range of RV sizes with 30 and 50-amp service, and the campground's waterfront positioning provides direct Grand River access from the property. A swimming pool, playground, boat launch and docks, kayak rentals (seven kayaks available), canoe rentals (three canoes), and golf cart rentals support both on-river recreation and campground navigation. A snack bar, general store, laundry, clean restrooms with showers, horseshoes, and cabin rentals complete the facility set. Weekend programming — organized activities including music and dancing — gives the property a social character that family and group camping occasions benefit from, and the weekday atmosphere is quieter and well-suited to the fishing guests who use the Grand River as their primary recreational focus.
The Grand River between Grand Rapids and Grand Haven flows through a meandering floodplain corridor of agricultural bottomland and wooded river edge that supports warmwater species — bass, walleye, northern pike, catfish, and carp — in significant populations and provides the Chinook and coho salmon run in fall that is one of the most anticipated fishing events in western Michigan. The Grand Haven outlet at Lake Michigan is accessible by water from the campground, providing a water route to the Lake Michigan shoreline for paddlers willing to cover the river miles between Coopersville and the coast. The Grand River's deep water access near the campground is specifically noted as a defining feature of the site.
Grand Haven, approximately 15 miles west, provides the full Lake Michigan beach and coastal town experience that anchors western Michigan's summer tourism economy — a long sandy beach, the Grand Haven Musical Fountain (the world's largest musical fountain), and the downtown boardwalk corridor of restaurants and shops along the Grand River channel make Grand Haven one of Michigan's most consistently visited summer destinations. Grand Rapids, 20 miles east, provides the urban cultural infrastructure of Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park, the Grand Rapids Art Museum, and the locally produced craft beer scene that has made Grand Rapids nationally recognized as "Beer City USA" in multiple years of national craft beer polling.
Conestoga Grand River Campground operates through the western Michigan camping season, typically May through October, with the summer peak from Memorial Day through Labor Day covering the pool season, water recreation, and social activities calendar. The fall salmon run from September through November is a peak fishing period that draws serious angling guests to the Grand River when the Chinook and coho salmon move upstream from Lake Michigan, and the combination of fall color and active river fishing makes September and October some of the most rewarding months for guests whose primary interest is the river rather than the pool-and-activity programming of the summer season.
