Moss Landing in LaBelle, Florida, is a well-appointed 55-plus age-qualified resort community in Hendry County on the Caloosahatchee River, offering permanent and seasonal residents a structured social environment with resort-caliber recreation facilities in one of Southwest Florida's most authentic and least tourist-developed river communities. LaBelle's position on the Okeechobee Waterway between Lake Okeechobee to the east and Fort Myers to the west places residents at the crossroads of Florida's inland waterway system in a community that has retained its agricultural and ranching character as the citrus groves and cattle operations of Hendry County continue to define the surrounding landscape's working economic foundation. The community's recreation infrastructure is oriented toward the active adult lifestyle the 55-plus demographic prioritizes: pickleball and tennis courts, shuffleboard, swimming pool, billiards, volleyball, basketball, fitness center, library, and the clubhouse that serves as the social center of daily community life provide structured activity options that support the year-round engagement of permanent residents and the seasonal snowbird visitors who escape northern winters. Full hookup sites, laundry, dog park, a community fire pit, showers, and Wi-Fi address the practical needs of both permanent residents and the seasonal visitors who arrive each October and depart in April. River and stream access adds a natural dimension alongside the community's organized recreation. LaBelle's position on the Caloosahatchee River provides access to the Okeechobee Waterway, the cross-Florida waterway that connects the Atlantic Ocean at Stuart to the Gulf of Mexico at Fort Myers via a combination of canals, rivers, and Lake Okeechobee—a route that allows boaters to cross the Florida peninsula without rounding the Keys and that provides remarkable fishing access to both the Caloosahatchee's bass and the lake's legendary bluegill and bass fisheries. The Caloosahatchee's riverside character, lined with tropical vegetation and accessed by the historic LaBelle drawbridge and downtown waterfront, gives the community a genuine small-Florida-river-town identity that communities closer to the coasts have sacrificed to development pressure. LaBelle's downtown maintains the character of a working agricultural community where the annual Swamp Cabbage Festival celebrates the Hendry County ranching and farming heritage with rodeo events, entertainment, and the heart of palm—swamp cabbage—prepared in the traditional cracker Florida style that defines the interior Florida culinary tradition. Lake Okeechobee, approximately 25 miles east, is the largest freshwater lake in Florida and one of the largest in the United States, providing largemouth bass fishing of legendary productivity in a lake where the Rim Canal trail system extends 110 miles around the lake's perimeter atop the Herbert Hoover Dike. Fort Myers and Cape Coral are accessible approximately 35 miles west. Moss Landing operates year-round as a 55-plus community, with the primary snowbird season from October through April filling the community's recreation programming at maximum capacity and generating the social environment that seasonal residents cite as the primary reason for their annual return. The summer residency is lighter but maintained by permanent residents and the year-round mild climate that LaBelle's inland position makes somewhat more seasonal than the coastal communities, with summer's heat and the occasional Hendry County thunderstorm creating the afternoon indoor rhythm familiar to long-term Florida residents. The community's established social fabric and comprehensive recreation infrastructure create a stable year-round residential environment.
